All these interventions have their place. Yet, they sometimes take up so much space that they leave little room for another partner in the intervention: the animal. <\/div>

Because it communicates too.<\/div>
<\/div>
Not with words, but with its gaze, its posture, its movements, its pace, its distance, its engagement, or even its choice to participate or not.<\/div>
<\/div>
We just need to give it time to express itself.<\/div>
<\/div>
The most common mistake<\/div>
<\/div>
When an activity is underway, several practitioners feel the need to maintain a continuous flow of speech.<\/div>
<\/div>
They want to encourage the beneficiary, support their motivation, or avoid moments of silence<\/span>.<\/div>
<\/div>
Yet, by constantly talking, we sometimes risk missing important information.<\/div>
<\/div>
The animal may be trying to communicate something to us.<\/div>
<\/div>
It hesitates.<\/div>
<\/div>
It slows down.<\/div>
<\/div>
It chooses another direction.<\/div>
<\/div>
It looks away.<\/div>
<\/div>
It stops.<\/div>
<\/div>
But we continue giving instructions without taking the time to observe what is happening.<\/div>

A concrete example<\/div>
<\/div>
A practitioner accompanies a child in an activity where the child must guide a dog toward different objects.<\/div>
<\/div>
Highly engaged, she continuously gives instructions.<\/div>
<\/div>
“Try again.”<\/div>
<\/div>
“Go that way.”<\/div>
<\/div>
“Call him.”<\/div>
<\/div>
“Look, he’s going over there.”<\/div>
<\/div>
At one point, she simply decides to stay quiet.<\/div>
<\/div>
The child also stops talking.<\/div>
<\/div>
The dog stops.<\/div>
<\/div>
It looks at the child for a few seconds.<\/div>
<\/div>
The child spontaneously changes their posture, waits a moment, and the dog comes back to them.<\/div>
<\/div>
The practitioner then realizes that, since the beginning of the activity, her many interventions may have been preventing the duo from finding their own rhythm.<\/div>

It is not the silence<\/span> that produced the interaction.<\/div>
<\/div>

It is the space it created.<\/strong><\/h3>

A space where everyone could finally communicate.<\/div>

Before giving a new instruction, the professional can ask themselves:<\/div>
<\/div>
Do I really need to intervene now?<\/div>
<\/div>
What am I missing because I am talking?<\/div>
<\/div>
What would happen if I waited a few seconds?<\/div>
<\/div>
What are the beneficiary and the animal currently communicating to me?<\/div>
<\/div>
These few moments can transform the quality of observation and allow more authentic interactions to emerge.<\/div>
<\/div>
Professional practice also relies on the ability to wait<\/div>
<\/div>
The intervention is not limited to the practitioner’s words.<\/div>
<\/div>
It is also built through glances, movements, hesitations, choices, and silences.<\/div>
<\/div>
