What is animal-assisted therapy?
Animal-assisted therapy is an intervention:
- led by a trained professional in animal-assisted therapy (the animal-assisted therapist),
- with a trained and selected animal (the animal-assisted therapy intervention partner animal, also called APIZ),
- for a person in need (the client).
The objective of animal-assisted therapy intervention is the improvement of well-being (psychological, physical, emotional, cognitive, or social) according to the client’s specific needs. *
