THE EVALUATION AND SPECIFIC TRAINING OF THE DOG IN ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY – TRAINING

- Knowing the selection criteria for a canine partner and the desired personality based on the clientele to be met
- Adopting an evaluation protocol and conducting several specific evaluations
- Understanding dog learning theories
- Identifying a candidate’s training needs and building an optimization plan
- Learning to manage the animal during intervention
- Observing, working with, and optimizing the dog’s strengths, while respecting its personality
- Finding solutions to problems encountered during intervention
- Improving the management of facilitation during intervention
- Transfer of concrete tools to develop to optimize the partnership with evaluated dogs in their intervention environment

**Important note**: if you wish to have your dog evaluated during your training, this will take place on February 19 during a predetermined 30-minute time slot during the day. Your dog will not be admitted to the room at any other time than during its evaluation. It is therefore important to plan where it will be for the other days of your courses. We have the possibility for it to wait in a crate, if accustomed, in a room adjacent to where the courses are held. If not, it is important to plan accordingly.

These 2 days were extremely enriching, addressing the importance of enhancing our intervention methods to thoughtfully and relevantly mediate the relationship with animals.
